Mappillai samba, also known as "Bridegroom's Rice", is a traditional red rice variety from Tamil Nadu, India. It's white in color, resistant to pests and disease, and grows best during the Samba season, which lasts 135–140 days. The name comes from the custom of giving the rice to the groom before his wedding to increase his strength.

It's well suited to organic farming because it is hardy and demands little or no fertilizers or pesticides.

Mappillai Samba, also called 'Bride Groom Rice' and possessing the name Red Rice, is commonly found in Tamil Nadu. It can be eaten on a daily basis, like regular rice.
Mappillai samba is high in fiber and vitamin B1, and has a low glycemic index. It's also rich in iron, manganese, phosphorus, molybdenum, magnesium, and zinc.
